Innovating with Precision Farming

The agricultural sector is on the cusp of a new revolution. And precision farming plays a crucial role in this. At VDBorne Campus, we bring together technology, innovation, and sustainability to shape the agriculture of the future. The VDBorne Campus offers everyone the opportunity to discover, learn, and apply the power of precision farming. Whether you’re already highly experienced or just getting started, the VDBorne Campus is the place for you to learn more about precision farming. At the Campus, you’ll find a vibrant network of like-minded individuals from whom you can draw inspiration and gain insights. With this dynamic network, we ensure that you become one of the leaders in the field of precision farming.

What is precision farming?

Precision farming refers to the use of advanced technologies (such as sensors, satellites, drones, and data analysis) to manage every part of your field optimally and in a customized manner. While traditional methods often operate at the farm level, precision agriculture allows you to work at a much more specific level (e.g., zone or even plant level). This enables you, for example, to fertilize and irrigate in a highly targeted manner and optimize the use of crop protection products. The goal, of course, is to achieve higher yields, lower costs, and a smaller ecological footprint.

PLACE, LOCATION, AND ACTION!

Precision farming can be defined as:

  • Applying the right cultivation measure
  • At the right time
  • In the right place

To classify certain activities as precision farming, the time component is added in addition to a specific measure taken at a specific location. Precision farming aims to use inputs as efficiently as possible in order to maximize output, crop yield, and the overall profitability of the crop.

Why Precision Farming?

The global agricultural sector faces the enormous challenge of producing more with fewer resources. Climate change, soil degradation, and water shortages make this challenge even greater. Precision farming provides an answer by making smarter use of data and technology. It enables farmers to efficiently manage resources such as water, fertilizers, and pesticides, which not only lowers costs but also reduces environmental impact.

With precision farming, you can:

  • Increase yields: Through accurate monitoring and implementation of cultivation measures.
  • Reducing costs: For example, through the efficient use of resources.
  • Improve soil and water management: Real-time data aids in the sustainable management of your soil and water resources.
  • Promote sustainability: Reducing waste contributes to a healthier environment.
